‘Looking after our environment to save it for the future!'
At St Colman's School this is our motto.
We are members of the Reef Guardian Schools and Comalco Green and Healthy Schools programmes. As part of our stewardship we are committed to developing a sustainable, environmentally friendly school area. As part of their class investigation, students in year six have looked at ways in which we can be more sustainable in our school. From this, senior students regularly maintain sustainable projects such as the vegetable garden, native garden, worm farms and compost bin.
St Colman's School is really working hard to develop healthy kids, healthy practices and therefore a healthy environment in which to play and learn. Each day the children have a ten minute morning fruit break in which they eat fruit. Fruit scraps are then placed in a bucket and are shared between our worm farm and compost bin. At lunch times bread scraps are also collected and at the end of the day are given to a local family to help feed their farm animals.
